Lensrank Factors: Pages Per Visit?

My theory about Lensrank is that most Dashboard stats are used to calculate Lensrank, although we have no idea how they’re weighted. Otherwise, why is Squidoo taking up huge gobs of server time and space to crunch those numbers for hundreds of thousands of lenses each day?

I have been away for a while, and just noticed a third stat added to the Traffic stats for a lens:

Total visits: 174 visits     Total pageviews: 256 pageviews     Pages/visit: 1.47

O-ho. Squidoo’s decided pages/visit is important!

EDIT: Oh, but what IS pages/visit? No, it’s not how many times your visitor comes back to the page, as I had thought. Fluffanutta explains: each lens now has sub-pages aka “Module pages,” so this gives you an idea how often visitors are going to those pages as well as the main lens.

Lakeeerieartist has a great lens explaining Module Pages and what they’re good for.

  1. Actually, Squidoo are experimenting with ‘multi-page lenses’, which some of the Giants have been playing with over the last few weeks. The Pages/visit metric was added for that purpose.

Did you notice the other great improvements on the Traffic tab of your lens stats?

OOOOH. Thank you, Fluff. Well, I feel like a numbskull! I had better edit this post with your correction so I don’t confuse people about what Pages/visit means.

I had certainly noticed the stats for the discovery tool referrers. Very savvy, showing people how it helps and encouraging them to go visit lenses they might ought to lensroll or feature.

Hm hm hm. What else. I’m missing it! D’oh! Have you got a post somewhere that I should be reading up on?

In passing, I wish that bug that pushed all the pie charts and visitor tables halfway off the screen was fixed. I reported it last February.
It’s probably only on Mac Firefox, though.

Very cool sounding feature. Wishing I was a giant so I could test it out. Do you know if it will be for all lensmasters soon?

Check your dashboard. It should be part of your traffic stats right now!

Or if you mean the extra modules pages, check the link in this post for the full scoop. I haven’t investigated them yet, but lakeerieartists has!
