Tolkien’s sly comment is actually a good one to keep in mind for all kinds of online writing; people love reading an article that makes them feel smart, showing them that they already know a good deal, much more than one that makes them feel stupid!

I love the posts like this that you write where I read along and just nod my head to everything. I learn stuff, reinforce old stuff and get to feel smart for identifying stuff I already did, even if I wasn’t consciously aware of it
